Between January 28 and February 1, 2019, a team of World Bank experts conducted a working visit to Chișinău to initiate the development process of the Optimization Study for the Centralized Thermal Energy Supply System in Chișinău and fuel supply options (the System Study), financed by the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP).
The SACET Chișinău optimization mission included meetings and discussions with representatives of the Government, Termoelectrica SA, and UCIPE, aiming to agree on the following topics: (i) the timeline for completing the Study components, (ii) Termoelectrica SA’s investment plans, (iii) regulation of the centralized heating sector, and (iv) other related aspects.
The World Bank team conducted working visits to CET-1, CET-2, the South and West Thermal Plants, six suburban thermal plants, and the main pumping stations. Representatives of the World Bank, Termoelectrica SA, and UCIPE actively collaborated to collect primary data necessary for developing the system’s energy model.
The closing meeting of the mission took place on February 1, 2019.
The Study draft is expected to be completed by March 2019, with the final System Study scheduled for completion no later than mid-May 2019.
